EU Excludes Apple Maps and Ads from Digital Gatekeeper List
The European Commission has decided not to designate Apple Maps and Apple Ads as gatekeepers under the EU's Digital Markets Act. This decision was based on the relatively low usage of Apple Maps in the EU and the limited scale of Apple Ads within the European online advertising market.

The European Commission has announced that Apple Maps and Apple Ads will not be designated as gatekeepers under the EU's Digital Markets Act. This follows an analysis showing low usage of Apple Maps and a limited reach of Apple Ads in the EU's online advertising market.
According to the Commission, neither Apple Maps nor Apple Ads serve as critical entry points for businesses seeking to reach European consumers. Therefore, they do not meet the criteria defined for gatekeepers in the Digital Markets Act, set to enforce fair competition in the digital sector.
This exclusion signifies that, while Apple holds significant influence as a tech giant, its Maps and Ads services alone do not wield enough market power in Europe to impact competition substantially.
