Nvidia's Blackwell Chips and the US-China Tech Tug-of-War
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang expresses hopes to sell Blackwell chips in China, amid US-China tensions over tech export controls. During his South Korea visit, Huang highlighted China's interest in advanced chips while acknowledging US restrictions and the competitive emergence of Chinese chip-makers like Huawei.

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang expressed optimism about the potential sale of Nvidia's advanced Blackwell chips in China, highlighting the interest of Chinese companies in the technology. However, Huang acknowledged that the decision hinges on approval from the U.S. government, specifically President Donald Trump.
Huang's remarks came during his first visit to South Korea in over ten years, coinciding with discussions between Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping. While semiconductor sales were on the agenda, Trump clarified that the Blackwell chips were not discussed specifically.
The ongoing tension between the U.S. and China over high-tech exports remains a significant issue. Washington's export controls aim to curtail China's advancements in AI and computing, prompting Nvidia to develop a toned-down Blackwell chip for the Chinese market. Despite their efforts, Chinese government support has shifted towards promoting domestic manufacturers like Huawei.
