India has officially expressed its intention to host the 2038 Asian Games, a move signaling the country's ambition to emerge as a key global player in organizing major sporting events. The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) recently submitted an Expression of Interest (EOI) to the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA).
The announcement was reviewed at the OCA's executive board meeting in Sanya, China, aligning with the Asian Beach Games commencement. 'Yes, we have submitted an EOI, and it was discussed by the OCA in its executive board meeting,' IOA CEO Raghuram Iyer confirmed to PTI.
Potential sites for hosting the games include Ahmedabad, the 2030 Commonwealth Games venue, enhancing its candidacy for the 2036 Olympics bid as well. South Korea and Mongolia have also shown interest for the 2038 edition. The city's selection is anticipated by 2028, providing suspense in the regional sporting saga.
