Joya, a 14-year-old football prodigy, stunned spectators with a game-winning goal that secured a 3-2 victory for India U-17 Women's team against Myanmar. This remarkable comeback, achieved in stoppage time in Yangon, marked only her second international appearance.
Growing up in Phagwara, Punjab, Joya's football journey began in her village. Initially hesitant, her mother became her biggest supporter. Joya credits her initial training with coaches Hardeep and Sandeep Singh for her development in the sport.
The young player's debut on the competitive scene occurred during the 2024 U15 Khelo India Women's Football League. Subsequent performances earned her a spot at the national camp in Bengaluru, training under coach Pamela Conti. This preparation culminated in her memorable performance against Myanmar, as India prepares for the AFC U17 Women's Asian Cup.
