Punjab Kings head coach Ricky Ponting has shown support for the delayed arrival of South African all-rounder Marco Jansen in the IPL. This delay results from logistical challenges post-T20 World Cup, where South Africa and West Indies players were detained in India due to restricted operations at major airports like Dubai and Abu Dhabi amidst the ongoing West Asia conflict.
Jansen is expected to join the squad on March 26, with Ponting and other foreign players scheduled to assemble on March 21. Afghan all-rounder Azmatullah Omarzai, currently dealing with his nation's conflict with Pakistan, will arrive on March 23. Captain Shreyas Iyer is set to join the team by March 19, showcasing Ponting's strategic patience and leadership.
Ponting, alongside Iyer, had steered PBKS to the final last season, marking a milestone since 2014. The logistical challenges also highlight the additional travel hurdles teams face, given the reduced operations at significant transit points. PBKS will start their 2026 IPL campaign against the Gujarat Titans at home on March 31, followed by an away game against CSK on April 3.
