Sahith Theegala, an American golfer of Indian descent, showcased an extraordinary performance on the first day of the Players Championship. He holed a wedge shot from 99 yards for an eagle, finishing with a 5-under 67 round and tying for the lead just as play was halted due to darkness.

Theegala was in a five-way tie with Maverick McNealy, Lee Hodges, Sepp Straka, and Austin Smotherman.
