IPL Kicks Off Amid Election Challenges and Safety Concerns

Matches are planned at several venues, with precautions in place for fan safety.
Champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru will face off against Sunrisers Hyderabad on March 28, marking the start of the new Indian Premier League (IPL) season. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the schedule's first phase, which covers March 28 to April 12.
This release coincides with upcoming State Assembly elections in three states. Royal Challengers face an uncertain schedule due to safety concerns at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, following a stampede in June that claimed 11 lives during a celebration.
The matches, including those from five-time champions Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings, are subject to clearance from an expert committee. The IPL runs until May 31, with the remaining schedule to be confirmed post-election announcements.
