Charles Leclerc of Ferrari addressed the team's strategic choices after the race, highlighting a decision during the Virtual Safety Car (VSC) period that potentially cost him a better finish than third. Leclerc had initially surged into the lead after a strong start, maneuvering past competitors decisively.
When Red Bull's Isack Hadjar's vehicle came to a halt, triggering the first VSC, Mercedes opted for a pit stop. Unlike Mercedes, Ferrari decided against pitting, anticipating more opportunities as the race progressed. Leclerc and his team believed more safety car periods were likely, given previous incidents during practice sessions.
In hindsight, Leclerc stood by the decision, describing it as a 'conscious choice' despite missing a later chance due to a closed pit entry during another VSC. Despite the outcome, Leclerc expressed no regrets about the tactical gamble that, unfortunately, did not favor them as expected.
