The Abu Dhabi Sports Council has announced that the 2026 Modon World Triathlon Championship Series will proceed as planned on March 28-29, despite necessary adjustments in competition categories.
Regional conflicts involving the U.S., Israel, and Iran have caused delays for various sporting events across the Middle East. Nonetheless, age-group community races approved by World Triathlon are set to take place on Hudayriyat Island, according to Friday's statement from the organizers. Meanwhile, the Elite individual races, the Para triathlon Cup, and the Elite Mixed Relay have been postponed.
The championship series is set to begin its second round in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, on April 26. If the Abu Dhabi event is held before the Grand Final, five rounds plus the final will count towards the season's points. Otherwise, only four rounds plus the final will contribute. Athletes listed in the Abu Dhabi start lists are eligible for other World Triathlon events before the first round in Samarkand.
