Abdul Qayoom, the former captain of Jammu and Kashmir and the current head of the Cricket Advisory Committee, envisions a groundbreaking season for the region. Earlier this year, the Under-16 team made history by claiming their first BCCI championship, winning the Vijay Merchant Trophy. On Wednesday, the senior team reached their inaugural Ranji Trophy final, defeating a formidable Bengal side.
The road to success has not been easy, with Qayoom highlighting persistent infrastructure challenges in the Union Territory. Despite lacking adequate grounds and facilities, efforts are ongoing to nurture cricket talent. A new talent hunt is scheduled for March, aiming to bring promising players into the spotlight.
Qayoom credits the team's resilience to consistent coaching and strategic planning. The team has demonstrated remarkable performances against major cricket states, such as Mumbai and Delhi, and remains undeterred by pressure. The senior team's achievements reflect a stable and robust selection and coaching process, with fast-bowlers like Auqib Nabi playing a crucial role in their success.
