England revived their chances in a crucial Group C fixture against Italy on Monday, setting a daunting target of 202 for seven, thanks to a scintillating performance by Will Jacks. His unbeaten 53 off 22 balls provided a much-needed boost in England's must-win match for a Super Eights spot.
The two-time champions initiated the innings aggressively, though they followed the familiar pattern of losing wickets regularly. England seemed perilously placed at 105/5 when Jacks, supported by Sam Curran's 25-run contribution, revitalized the innings with a swift 54-run partnership, lifting England past the 200-mark for the first time in the tournament.
Phil Salt contributed a fast 28 to place England on the front foot, although veteran Jos Buttler's early dismissal cast a shadow over the early momentum. Despite these setbacks, Jacks' fiery form helped England maintain an attacking stance, offering renewed optimism for their campaign.
