Former Indian cricketer and commentator Sanjay Manjrekar has called for an end to the hype surrounding India-Pakistan cricket matches following India's decisive victory over Pakistan in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 in Colombo. In a social media video, Manjrekar stressed that the intense promotion of these matches is unnecessary due to the observable mismatch between the teams.
During the highly anticipated group-stage match, India dominated Pakistan, securing a convincing 61-run win. This marked India's third consecutive victory in the tournament, positioning them at the top of Group A standings and earning them a place in the Super 8 stage. The match unfolded against dramatic circumstances, with Pakistan initially threatening a boycott before opting to participate.
After winning the toss, Pakistan chose to field. Despite early setbacks like Abhishek's dismissal for a duck, crucial contributions from Ishan, Tilak Varma, and the middle order led India to a commendable total of 175/7. In response, Pakistan was dismantled by India's disciplined bowling, managing only 114 runs in 18 overs. Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah, and Axar Patel were instrumental in restricting their rivals, solidifying India's dominance in T20 cricket against Pakistan.
