Vittozzi faced intense competition from 22-year-old Norwegian Maren Kirkeeide, known for her formidable skiing abilities. Despite the pressure, Vittozzi's accuracy allowed her to secure a 28.8-second win over Kirkeeide, who won silver after recovering from two missed shots. Finnish athlete Suvi Minkkinen earned bronze, becoming the first Finnish woman to medal in Olympic biathlon.
The pursuit race order was based on the sprint results, with challenging conditions due to a subtle breeze adding complexity to the shooting range.
