New Zealand's fast bowler Lockie Ferguson is set to miss the upcoming T20 World Cup group game against Canada. This absence is due to a paternal leave of absence, as announced by New Zealand Cricket on Sunday.

The 34-year-old player will return home on Sunday but is expected to be back for the Super 8 stage if New Zealand progresses past the group stage. Head Coach Rob Walter stated that there are currently no plans to replace Ferguson, though traveling reserves Ben Sears and Cole McConchie are ready to step in if needed.

New Zealand has played three group matches, securing victories in two and suffering a loss to South Africa. They are scheduled to compete against Canada on Tuesday.
