The Netherlands nearly staged a major upset at the Twenty20 World Cup, but Faheem Ashraf's quick-fire 29 not out led Pakistan to a tense three-wicket victory in their Group A encounter at Colombo's Sinhalese Sports Club.
After the Dutch were bowled out for 147 in the final over, they delivered an impressive bowling performance. However, they could not capitalize on opportunities, allowing Pakistan to clinch victory with three deliveries remaining.
Pakistan captain Salman Agha praised Faheem's match-winning contribution, acknowledging the team's struggles in the chase after a strategic decision to boycott a match against India. Yet, timely breakthroughs by players like Saim Ayub and Salman Mirza ensured the Netherlands' total remained below par.
