Tensions Rise as Pakistan Reiterates Boycott of T20 World Cup Match with India

In a firm reiteration, Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced his country's decision to boycott the T20 World Cup group-stage clash against India, highlighting a clear national stance on the matter. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) responded that the matter rests with the International Cricket Council (ICC) for resolution.

Sharif's declaration, made during a federal cabinet meeting in Islamabad and reported by Dawn, emphasizes that there should be "no politics in sports". The ICC, in response, underscored the need for inclusive participation, warning that selective play could undermine the essence of global sporting events.

The ICC remains hopeful that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) will reconsider its stance in response to potential long-term repercussions. Tensions were further complicated when Bangladesh refused to play in India due to purported security concerns, leading to Scotland's inclusion in the World Cup.
