India Bids for 2031 AFC Asian Cup: A Major Leap in Football Ambitions
India has officially bid to host the 2031 AFC Asian Cup, competing with countries like Australia, Korea, and a joint Central Asia bid. The nation aims for global sports recognition alongside a 2036 Olympics bid, with full governmental backing. Past bids were withdrawn due to prioritization shifts.
India has cemented its aspirations in the footballing world by bidding to host the 2031 AFC Asian Cup. As announced by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), India is among six nations vying for this prestigious event, alongside Australia, Korea, Indonesia, and a joint bid from Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.
The bid marks a significant step in India's global sporting ambitions, further bolstered by its pursuit of the 2036 Olympics. Governmental support has been robust, with Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya underscoring the importance of hosting international events to elevate India’s standing.
Previously, India had withdrawn its bids for the 2023 and 2027 editions due to strategic priority adjustments. However, with renewed focus and backing, India positions itself as a strong contender, aiming to bring the AFC Cup to its soil for the first time.
