Australia's pursuit of another ICC U19 World Cup title ended abruptly as they suffered a 27-run defeat against England in a gripping semifinal clash at Queens Sports Club. Despite their skipper Oliver Peake’s valiant century, Australia couldn’t chase down England's daunting target of 278 runs.
This accomplishment marks England's third qualification for the U19 World Cup finals, building on their runner-up finish in 2022 and a winning campaign in 1998. Australia, the defending champions, managed 250 runs in 47.3 overs, falling short in the face of England’s disciplined bowling attack.
Aside from Peake, who battled cramps to score a commendable 100 from 88 deliveries, no other Australian batter passed the 50-run threshold. England's bowlers shone, with Sebastian Morgan, James Minto, Manny Lumsden, and Ralphine Albert each taking two wickets to adequately defend their earlier total of 277/7, headlined by captain Thomas Rew’s superb 110.
