Ben Shelton, the American eighth seed, secured a victory against Ugo Humbert in the opening round of the Australian Open. The match, held at Rod Laver Arena, showcased Shelton's powerful gameplay as he captured the first set 6-3.

Humbert fought back fiercely in the second set, twice coming back from a break down. However, it was in the tie-break where Shelton regained control, taking advantage of Humbert's unforced errors to win 7-6(2).

The third set was an intense battle, with Humbert initially leading in the tie-break. Yet, Shelton's resilience saw him rally back to clinch the final tie-break 7-6(5), thus booking his spot in the tournament's second round.
