The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) announced on Sunday that Najmul Hossain Shanto will remain the captain of Bangladesh's Test cricket team until the conclusion of the ongoing 2025-2027 ICC World Test Championship cycle. Shanto, who took over the Test captaincy in 2023, has led the team in 14 Test matches, marking a period of development and competitiveness.

BCB President Md Aminul Islam stated the decision signifies the Board's trust in the 27-year-old Shanto's leadership abilities and his vision for Bangladesh's long-term growth in Test cricket. 'Shanto has exemplified composure, commitment, and a profound understanding of Test cricket. Under his leadership, we've observed growth, belief, and consistency in team performances. Continuing with his captaincy is crucial for the team's progress in the current World Test Championship cycle,' said Islam, as noted in the BCB press release.

Expressing gratitude, Shanto remarked, 'I am deeply honored to continue leading the Bangladesh Test team and thankful for the Board's faith in my role as captain. Leading my country in Test cricket is my greatest pride, and I aim to live up to this responsibility.' Shanto added that he is looking forward to the upcoming series against Ireland, signaling the start of a pivotal period for Bangladesh Test cricket.
