Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has announced the postponement of the 2025 Lanka Premier League (LPL) as the country gears up to co-host the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup with India. The decision aims to ensure that cricket infrastructure is up to international standards.
The LPL, initially slated for December, has been shelved indefinitely to facilitate extensive renovations at three major cricket venues, including Colombo's R. Premadasa Stadium. The upgrades are crucial for meeting the International Cricket Council's (ICC) stringent guidelines for the 20-team tournament.
The preparations for the World Cup include enhancing facilities at all host venues to accommodate the high demands of the global event. SLC emphasized the importance of a well-equipped infrastructure to uphold the reputation of international competitions in its statement.
