Delhi Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa announced an ambitious initiative to enhance the capital's air quality management through a real-time source apportionment study. This project, spearheaded by IIT Delhi, focuses on the continuous monitoring and analysis of air pollutants, particularly particulate matter.
The study was detailed during a high-level meeting chaired by Sirsa, where IIT Delhi scientists presented a roadmap for strengthening air quality management using scientific interventions. Fast-tracking approvals for the initiative was underscored, with a focus on the re-operationalisation of the DPCC's supersite, supported by advanced monitoring technologies.
This project, anticipated to last five years, aims to provide real-time data for informed policy-making, helping identify pollution sources dynamically. It promises to enhance the existing infrastructure by integrating mobile monitoring units and creating a live data dashboard, thus significantly boosting Delhi's efforts against air pollution.
