Exoskeletons Aid Hong Kong Fire Survivors in Emotional Return
Four months after a devastating fire in Hong Kong's Tai Po district, former resident Fanny Mok prepares to retrieve belongings using robotic exoskeleton legs. The blaze claimed 168 lives, displacing thousands. AidVengers Federation assists affected residents like Mok, who require exoskeletons for accessibility due to mobility challenges.
Four months following a deadly fire that swept through an apartment block in Hong Kong's Tai Po district, survivor Fanny Mok is getting ready to return and collect her remaining possessions.
Mok, aged 59, plans to use robotic exoskeleton legs to reach her residence on the 13th floor—a climb made challenging by her age and physical health. The November blaze destroyed the complex, leaving 168 dead and displacing over 4,000 residents.
Assisted by the NGO AidVengers Federation, dozens of former residents, including Mok, are undergoing training to operate exoskeletons from Shanghai company Hypershell, allowing them a final chance to retrieve cherished belongings during a designated window.
