In a significant development for Shimla, a new water supply project from the Sutlej River became operational, potentially alleviating the city's frequent summer water shortages.
This initiative boosts water capacity to 107 megalitres per day and implements ozone technology for the first time in the region. Half of the 1,330 trees marked for removal were preserved by using innovative pipeline elevation techniques.
Apart from infrastructure enhancements, this Rs 500 crore World Bank-funded project includes solar energy generation and advanced water treatment facilities, underscoring its status as the largest project of its type in Himachal Pradesh.
