Tragedy Strikes Mont Blanc: Avalanche Claims Lives of Skiers

An avalanche tragedy struck Mont Blanc on Sunday, claiming the lives of two skiers and seriously injuring another. The incident unfolded on the Italian side, near the France-Switzerland border.

The disaster occurred in Courmayeur's Couloir Vesses, a popular freeride destination. Italian Alpine Rescue reported three skiers were ensnared in the avalanche. One of the injured was hospitalized in critical condition but later succumbed.

Rescue operations were extensive, involving 15 personnel, canine units, and helicopters. Authorities warn that unstable snowpack, exacerbated by recent storms, poses heightened avalanche risks across the Alps.
