In a significant move to revitalize Old Delhi, the Delhi government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, has announced plans to prioritize its redevelopment. Gupta emphasized transforming the historic 'Walled City' into a tourism hub, focusing on preserving its rich history and cultural legacy.
The redevelopment plan includes taking overhead electrical wires underground to boost safety and improve the area's visual aesthetics. Addressing traffic congestion with a comprehensive management plan and constructing multi-level parking facilities are also high on the agenda, Gupta stated.
Revamping Old Delhi's infrastructure aligns with the government's goal of balancing development while safeguarding its historical heritage. This involves upgrading heritage sites like 'havelis', 'katras', and 'koochas'. Additionally, past redevelopment efforts will be reassessed to ensure continued enhancement of the city's historical areas.
