In Bikaner, Rajasthan, a large-scale protest was held on Monday by environmentalists, social activists, and public representatives against the cutting of khejri trees. The protest, termed 'Prakriti Bachao Mahapadav,' saw participation from various regions, including Sri Ganganagar, Hanumangarh, and Jodhpur, highlighting ecological concerns over tree felling for solar projects.
The demonstrators warned of further agitation if prompt action isn't taken to conserve the khejri tree. Independent MLA Ravindra Singh Bhati emphasized the need for youth involvement and hinted at escalating protests with a gherao in Jaipur if demands are unmet. Meanwhile, Mokam Peethadhishwar Ramanand Acharya threatened an indefinite hunger strike unless a protective law is enacted soon.
Allegations arose from Karni Sena leader Mahipal Singh Makrana, claiming that influential individuals were benefiting from the solar developments. Both BJP leaders and protesters are calling for Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma to fulfill his promise of legislation for tree protection. In support of the cause, markets across Bikaner remained shuttered on Monday.
