A seismic tremor registering 5.8 magnitude shook the southeastern coastline of Russia's Kamchatka peninsula on Monday, according to data from the United States Geological Survey (USGS).

The quake originated at a depth of 24 kilometers (14.91 miles) below the earth's surface, according to the USGS, highlighting the geological volatility of the region.

Earlier assessments by Germany's GFZ Research Centre for Geosciences had marked the earthquake's strength at 6.4 magnitude before revising it downward, aligning with the USGS's findings.
