During the Diwali festival period, Mumbai faced a surge in waste generation, with the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) disposing of over 3,000 metric tonnes of additional refuse. The city saw an increase of 600 to 700 metric tonnes of waste daily, bringing the total to approximately 7,300 metric tonnes between October 18 and 21.

Regular and special cleaning operations were carried out throughout Mumbai and its suburbs. The civic Solid Waste Management (SWM) Department's staff worked tirelessly round the clock to maintain cleanliness during the festive season, ensuring the city remained in pristine condition.
