The U.S. State Department announced the appointment of Tommy Pigott as its new spokesperson on Friday. Pigott's career began with the department in January 2025 during President Donald Trump's second term, where he served as principal deputy spokesperson.
His promotion comes at a time when the department has been seeking a dynamic individual to fill this key communication role following Tammy Bruce's appointment as U.S. deputy representative to the United Nations.
Pigott is tasked with conveying the department’s agenda to audiences both domestically and internationally, under the guidance of Secretary Marco Rubio. Pigott's extensive communication experience includes working on Trump's 2024 election campaign and his role at the Republican National Committee.
