Union Home Minister Amit Shah made a significant promise on Tuesday, aiming to address the enduring Gorkha issue within six months if the BJP secures power in West Bengal. Shah assured the crowd at Kurseong in Darjeeling district that only the BJP can provide a solution that is acceptable to the Gorkhas.
Shah highlighted the BJP's commitment to resolving the century-old demand for a separate state, without explicitly mentioning 'Gorkhaland.' He accused Mamata Banerjee's government of ignoring attempts to address the issue and supported the work of a newly appointed interlocutor engaging with Gorkha organizations.
Criticizing the historical neglect by Congress and TMC, Shah urged voters to support BJP efforts to rectify past injustices. He emphasized the Gorkhas' concerns about electoral roll omissions and promised withdrawal of cases against Gorkha activists if BJP forms the government.
