French prosecutors are eagerly waiting to see if tech mogul Elon Musk will respond to a summons related to an ongoing investigation into X and its AI chatbot Grok. The inquiry, focusing on alleged fraudulent data extraction, may add strain between European and U.S. relations over tech governance.
This French probe later expanded to include accusations of Musk's complicity in distributing child pornography and creating sexual deepfakes via Grok. While his presence is mandatory at Monday’s hearing, authorities cannot yet forcibly compel Musk to appear. In July, Musk dismissed these claims as a 'politically-motivated criminal investigation.'
Intensifying the transatlantic divide, the U.S. Justice Department reportedly declined to aid French authorities, viewing the probe as politically charged. With development potentially impacting U.S.-European relations, the French investigation also focuses on X's alleged content manipulation, improper data extraction, and violation of rights through explicit deepfakes.
