Maharashtra's Deputy Chief Minister, Eknath Shinde, has condemned the alleged disruptions during the Satara Zilla Parishad presidential election, labeling it a 'grave assault on democratic values.' The Deputy CM raised this issue during the state legislature's ongoing budget session, questioning the integrity of the electoral process due to reported chaos.
Shinde underscored the severity of the incident by stating that disenfranchising voters equates to 'the murder of democracy.' He revealed communications with Shambhuraj Desai and Makrand Patil, who alleged pre-election cases against two voters, insinuating possible election outcome tampering.
In response, Shinde contacted Satara's Police Superintendent to ensure uninterrupted voter participation. Despite his intervention, reports of detained voters stirred concerns regarding election integrity. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis promised an inquiry and strict repercussions for any wrongdoing. The leaders also partook in Gudi Padwa celebrations, extending festive greetings.
