G Sudhakaran, the CPI(M) rebel leader, announced on Friday his intention to campaign against Agriculture Minister P Prasad in Cherthala. Sudhakaran, contesting as an Independent candidate from Ambalappuzha with UDF backing, accused Prasad of making unwarranted remarks without the party's consensus.
Sudhakaran had initially opted not to engage in campaigns outside Ambalappuzha, but changed his stance following Prasad's comments. He asserted his right to campaign for Prasad's defeat, arguing that Prasad had won the last election by a narrow margin, making his current position insecure.
Sudhakaran criticized the current crop of CPI(M) leaders and questioned the lack of ambitions among them. He pointed out an erosion of values in the party and highlighted internal conflicts that have led him to contest as an Independent. Despite CPI(M)'s claims, Sudhakaran stressed his commitment to strengthening the communist movement.
