The opposition Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has taken stern action against six of its lawmakers, issuing show cause notices following allegations of cross-voting in favor of BJP-backed independent candidate Dilip Ray during the recent Rajya Sabha elections.
Chief Whip Pramila Mallik addressed each MLA in a letter, demanding an explanation for their actions, which the party views as a serious breach of trust and discipline. The legislators in question have been instructed to submit their responses by March 20; failure to do so may result in disciplinary action, including suspension from the party.
Adding to the controversy, Tirtol MLA Ramakanta Bhoi claims he was forcibly confined and prevented from leaving the Naveen Niwas headquarters, an accusation he made publicly on a private news channel. This incident compounds the tension as the BJD navigates accusations of internal discord following BJP's electoral gains.
