Deadly explosions erupted in Maiduguri, the capital of Nigeria's Borno state, on Monday night. At least three locations, including the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital and two local markets, became targets of suspected suicide bombings, reported the National Emergency Management Agency.
Eyewitnesses and local officials describe the scene as chaotic, with over 200 people injured and scores feared dead. This attack is one of the deadliest the city has witnessed in recent years. Volunteer worker Mohammed Hassan and others rushed the wounded to hospitals, where some succumbed to their injuries.
Borno state, long struggling with Boko Haram insurgency, now faces renewed violence. Governor Babagana Umara Zulum condemned the attacks, calling them barbaric and urging calm among residents. The incident underscores ongoing security challenges in northeastern Nigeria.
