In a sharp critique, BJP MP Anurag Thakur questioned the opposition's move to debate the removal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. He mocked the initiative as a potential embarrassment for the opposition in Parliament.
Thakur further alleged that Congress had previously undermined the Election Commission's credibility by appointing lackeys during its rule. His comments come as signatures from over 120 MPs have been gathered in support of submitting the motion in Parliament.
The notice for CEC's removal, signed predominantly by INDIA bloc parties, is expected to be tabled in both Houses soon. Thakur emphasized the decision on whether to debate the issue lies with Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla.
