Kavitha's Indefinite Hunger Strike: A Stand for Velugumatla Victims

Telangana Jagruthi leader Kavitha has escalated her protest by initiating an indefinite hunger strike from the Telangana Jagruthi Central Office in Banjara Hills. Her demand is for immediate justice for the families affected by the house demolitions in Velugumatla, Khammam district. Kavitha's hunger strike commenced on Monday night as a gesture of solidarity with the displaced.

On Tuesday, around 600 police officers arrested her, moving her to Hyderabad. Despite her arrest, Kavitha pledges to persevere until the government addresses her demands for the victims. She calls for reconstruction of the demolished homes on their original sites, emphasizing that the government's actions may be a conspiracy linked to rising land values in Velugumatla.

Kavitha strongly criticized the Congress-led government for its alleged targeting of the poor, with these demolitions occurring even during crucial school examination periods. Over 750 homes were obliterated using bulldozers, impacting students and day laborers alike. She highlighted the victims' distressing conditions in temporary shelters, pointing to a growing demand for justice among local organizations and leaders.

The protest led to a four-hour city traffic blockade, and Kavitha condemned the massive police presence and arrests at the demonstration. She questioned the demolitions on lands designated for the poor, urging a response from Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and a judicial inquiry. Kavitha also called on local ministers to act, asserting that rebuilding these homes is the only acceptable resolution.

Kavitha's perseverance is evident as she declared, "Until government provides assurance and justice is granted, my hunger strike will continue." Her protest remains a focal point of the ongoing struggle for the Velugumatla victims.
