Australia Grants Visas to Iranian Women's Soccer Players

Australia has taken a decisive step by granting visas to five Iranian women's soccer players, allowing them to remain in the country amid safety concerns. This move came after U.S. President Donald Trump urged the Australian government not to deport the players back to Tehran, citing potential threats to their safety.

Home Affairs Minister Tony Burke announced that the players, who are part of a team currently in Australia for the Asian Cup tournament, are welcome to stay. This decision follows discussions between President Trump and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese regarding the players' asylum request.

The situation arose after reports surfaced that the five players had sought asylum in Australia due to fears of facing serious consequences upon returning to Iran. Burke assured reporters that the rest of the team could also remain in Australia if they choose.
