The Rajya Sabha elections unfolded with a mix of unopposed victories and intense contests. Key figures like NCP supremo Sharad Pawar and Union minister Ramdas Athawale were among those elected unopposed on Monday, illustrating the political clout certain leaders still hold.
As the last date for withdrawal of candidatures passed, 14 candidates are left in the fray for 11 contested seats across Bihar, Odisha, and Haryana. Bihar's political scene, in particular, is charged as Nitish Kumar shifts from his long tenure as Chief Minister to pursue a Rajya Sabha seat.
The elections aim to fill 37 vacant seats in 10 states, and with the BJP poised to augment its Rajya Sabha numbers, the balance of power may shift. Meanwhile, despite the numerous unopposed wins, the dynamics in Bihar, Odisha, and Haryana remain unpredictable with potential for cross-voting and strategic alliances.
