In a significant political move, Assam MLA Akhil Gogoi-led Raijor Dal announced it will not pursue talks with Congress for an alliance in the upcoming state assembly elections. This decision marks a departure from last year when multiple parties, including Raijor Dal, joined hands with Congress for electoral collaboration.

Raijor Dal has levelled serious accusations against Congress and its state chief Gaurav Gogoi, who allegedly undermined the alliance's foundational ideas by demanding an 'unconditional surrender' from Raijor Dal. The Congress recently joined with other opposition factions, excluding Akhil Gogoi's group in a joint press appearance.

Raijor Dal's refusal to continue alliance talks stems from perceived disrespect and dissatisfaction with seat distribution, as Congress offered significantly fewer seats than Raijor Dal's initial demands. The state's elections are anticipated to occur in April, marking a notable juncture in Assam's political landscape.
