A political confrontation has ignited between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and West Bengal's ruling party following accusations by BJP MP Khagen Murmu. On Sunday, Murmu called for the resignation of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, claiming she had insulted President Droupadi Murmu during an event in Siliguri.

President Murmu reportedly expressed displeasure over changes to the venue of her program and the absence of senior officials, including the chief minister. Speaking at the International Santal Conference, Murmu described Banerjee as her 'younger sister' but questioned the CM's absence. Banerjee, in turn, accused the President of acting on BJP's counsel and criticized the President's silence on issues affecting tribals in BJP-governed states.

BJP MLA Sankar Ghosh urged the Union Home Ministry to investigate the alleged insult to the President, while state minister Shashi Panja pointed out that Murmu did not address BJP's silence on voting rights of women from Scheduled Tribe communities. The political tussle underscores escalating tensions in West Bengal's political landscape.
