TMC Women Activists Protest LPG Price Hike with Symbolic March in Kolkata

In a striking demonstration in Kolkata, women activists from the TMC took to the streets on Sunday to protest a recent hike in LPG prices. The protest, which began at Subodh Mullick Square, saw participants clanging utensils to draw attention to the financial strain faced by households due to rising cooking gas costs.

Led by prominent state ministers Chandrima Bhattacharya and Shashi Panja, as well as party MP Mala Roy, the demonstration highlighted the impact of the increased prices on women, who predominantly manage household kitchens. Protestors wore black to symbolize their dissent and carried utensils to underscore the difficulty in meal preparation amid soaring costs.

The Rs 60 per cylinder price hike came just before International Women's Day, with activists questioning how families would manage cooking expenses. TMC leaders vowed to continue their protests until the price was rolled back, emphasizing the need for action amidst these challenging economic conditions.
