In a significant political shift, Bhupen Borah, the former Assam Congress president, announced his decision to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), highlighting changes in the Congress's state leadership's influence.
Borah stated that despite Assam Congress being led by Gaurav Gogoi, real control now rests with Dhubri MP Rakibul Hussain. He argues that Hussain is the fundamental base of Assam's Congress.
After sending his resignation to the Congress high command, Borah discussed his political journey with Rahul Gandhi, emphasizing their long-standing relationship. However, Borah noted that there was no discussion on his resignation. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed Borah's move to the BJP.
