Kharge Takes Aim: Calls for Scrutiny of RSS Finances

In a scathing critique, Congress leader and Karnataka Minister Priyank Kharge alleged financial irregularities by the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), demanding the organization face constitutional and legal scrutiny. During a book release event in Bengaluru, Kharge openly questioned the transparency of the RSS's funding sources, suggesting a potential money laundering operation.

Kharge claimed that with around 2,500 organizations affiliated with the RSS, funds are collected from countries like the US and UK. He challenged the customary 'Guru Dakshina' explanation, drawing an analogy to collecting funds under misleading pretenses. His criticism extended to recent religious interpretations and their politicization, particularly referencing RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat's statements on social matters.

The Minister also took a stern stand against the proposal to award Veer Savarkar the Bharat Ratna, citing his controversial role during India's freedom struggle. Kharge’s remarks emerged in reaction to comments made by Mohan Bhagwat at a lecture series in February, who indicated that honoring Savarkar would be prestigious, despite not being on the adjudication committee for the award.
