Political Standoff: Sapkal Refutes BJP's 'Mischief' Over Historical Figures

Maharashtra Congress President Harshwardhan Sapkal has hit back at BJP accusations, claiming the party is twisting his words to create controversy and distract from pressing issues. The charges come following Sapkal's comments equating Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Tipu Sultan, which the BJP criticized.

Sapkal clarified his stance, asserting that his intent was to highlight Tipu Sultan's adherence to Shivaji Maharaj's principles in battling the British, not to equate the two leaders. He accused the BJP of playing divisive politics by giving his statement a Hindu-Muslim narrative.

Sapkal also questioned the BJP's double standards, asking whether similar criticism would be leveled against other figures, like VD Savarkar, who made controversial remarks about Shivaji Maharaj. He emphasized his respect and pride in Shivaji Maharaj's legacy, reaffirming Congress's alignment with it.
