Tarique Rahman, the chairman of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), has made a fervent call for unity in building a safe and humane Bangladesh following his party's commanding victory in the 13th parliamentary elections. The BNP secured more than two-thirds of the seats, marking a significant shift in Bangladesh's political landscape.
Addressing a press conference shortly after the decisive win, Rahman emphasized the need for everyone to cooperate in maintaining law and order. He said, "We need everyone's cooperation to build a safe and humane Bangladesh. This time, everyone must play a responsible role in rebuilding the country."
The elections, held amid a backdrop of political instability, resulted in the BNP winning 209 out of 297 seats, with Jamaat-e-Islami gaining 68 seats. The voter turnout was recorded at 59.44 percent, and the elections symbolize the end of Sheikh Hasina's 15-year rule, following student-led protests.
