Prime Minister Narendra Modi leveled serious accusations against the Congress on Thursday, claiming that the party insulted the President of India amid disruptions in the Lok Sabha during the debate on her address. Modi's remarks come in response to what he described as disrespectful behavior towards tribals, Dalits, and people from the northeast.
During his reply to the Motion of Thanks to the President's address in the Rajya Sabha, Modi criticized the Congress for what he views as a recurring pattern of constitutional disrespect. He was unable to deliver his reply in the Lok Sabha due to the persistent uproar from the opposition, which he condemned as a blatant insult to the presidency and the democratic process.
Emphasizing the gravity of the situation, Modi highlighted an incident where papers were thrown at an MP from Assam, Dilip Saikia, who was presiding as Chair at the time. This act, Modi stated, was not only a personal insult but also an affront to the people of Assam and the northeast. He also referenced past instances of Congress objecting to the Bharat Ratna awarded to Bhupen Hazarika, amplifying his claims of their disrespect towards key cultural and community figures.
