Bangladesh's Foreign Affairs Adviser Touhid Hossain admitted on Thursday that relationships with India faced setbacks under the interim government led by Muhammad Yunus. However, he expressed hope for restoration after the upcoming general elections.

Hossain, an ex-diplomat, pointed out that even though the relations saw a downturn, they remain significant. An elected government could smooth over difficulties, he suggested, following the ousting of Sheikh Hasina's administration during the 2024 'July Uprising'.

The interim government ended its term after facilitating major negotiations, aiming to ease responsibilities for the next elected government. Simultaneously, tariffs with key partners such as the United States were reduced, setting a positive groundwork for the future.
