The Karnataka Legislative Council was embroiled in controversy on Tuesday after Congress MLC Nazeer Ahmed made derogatory remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The comments, which emerged during a Monday discussion, sparked a significant uproar from the opposition BJP, who demanded an unconditional apology from Ahmed.
On Tuesday, the situation escalated, with BJP members shouting slogans and disrupting proceedings, ultimately leading Chairperson Basavaraj Horatti to rule that Ahmed should apologize without reservation. Ahmed justified his remarks, expressing discomfort with referring to Modi as 'Vishwa Guru' when Mahatma Gandhi is traditionally held in this esteem.
Ahmed stated his readiness to face suspension if necessary. The heated confrontation in the chamber compelled Horatti to adjourn the council meeting, leaving tension unresolved.
